Trump blocks funds for Joshua tree projects
Projects aimed at preserving California’s Joshua Tree have been canceled after the Trump administration blocked over $25 million in national park funding, including nearly $1.2 million in agreements with the Great Basin Institute for Joshua Tree restoration efforts. The blocked agreements would have supported fire recovery, vegetation management, and habitat conservation, essential for protecting the endangered desert ecosystem. The decision, criticized by conservation groups, reflects broader reductions in park partnerships and staffing, impacting ongoing conservation and maintenance projects.
