Understanding red teaming in cybersecurity

Researchers and companies are increasingly using "red teaming" techniques—simulating malicious attempts—to identify and fix vulnerabilities in AI models that generate harmful content. Despite safeguards, some models still produce problematic images, such as deepfake or sexually explicit material, highlighting the importance of proactive testing before deployment. Advances in adversarial testing have helped reduce harmful outputs significantly, but experts emphasize that broader awareness and prevention efforts are essential to address deepfake abuse and its emotional and reputational harm to victims.
