FAA sets new hiring record after staffing concerns
The FAA has set a record by hiring 2,235 air traffic controller trainees in a single year, surpassing its previous goals and efforts to address longstanding staffing shortages. The agency also increased its certified controller workforce to over 11,000, with a target of 12,563 controllers to meet demand, though it remains below the target. This surge is part of a broader three-year plan supported by a $12.5 billion investment to modernize infrastructure, expand training, and incorporate technological advances to strengthen air traffic safety and capacity.
