Newsom signs bill to aid California newsrooms
Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill to support California’s local news organizations by offering refundable tax credits for employing journalists. The Community Newsroom Employment and Workforce Sustainability Act provides cash incentives of up to $20,000 per journalist and additional credits for new hires, aiming to combat the decline of local journalism. Critics, including business groups, oppose the bill due to concerns over increased taxes and potential fiscal liabilities.
