MIT professor highlights AI risks uniting lawmakers
Max Tegmark, an MIT physicist and AI researcher, states that attitudes toward AI have shifted significantly in the past three months, with increased political concern about the potential dangers of superintelligent systems. He recently met with U.S. senators to discuss the need for safety standards and regulatory oversight, advocating for an "FDA for AI" to ensure responsible development. Tegmark warns that without action, emerging AI systems could become a new species with goals conflicting with human interests, but he believes timely regulation can help steer AI toward beneficial uses.
