Mosquito-borne disease causes first US death
A dengue fever death has been confirmed in Florida, marking the first in the state since the 20th century. The individual, an 80-year-old woman, contracted the virus from a mosquito near her home, with her family noting she was previously unaware of prior infection. Local health officials have increased mosquito control efforts amid a recent surge in locally transmitted dengue cases in the Tampa Bay area.
