Boston Symphony Opening Remarks
The Boston Symphony Orchestra's opening night featured speeches from Mayor Michelle Wu, CEO Chad Smith, and Music Director Andris Nelsons, amid ongoing tensions within the organization. The concert included performances of works by Arturs Maskats, Elgar, and Brahms, notably Yo-Yo Ma's rendition of Elgar’s Cello Concerto. The event coincided with the announcement that Nelsons’s contract will end soon, casting a somber tone over the performance and reflecting strained relationships within the orchestra and its community.
