The article discusses the detention of Jimmy Lai, a pro-democracy advocate and media publisher in Hong Kong, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison on national security charges. It highlights calls from the U.S. and other Western countries for Lai’s immediate release, citing concerns over his health and his prolonged detention. The article suggests that if Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to improve relations with the U.S., he should release Lai during his upcoming meeting with President Trump, as a gesture of good faith.
