Death of Paul Barril, French officer linked to Rwanda

French officer Paul Parel, a founding member of the French National Gendarmerie's intervention team (GIGN), has passed away at the age of 80. His name was linked to the genocide in Rwanda. Despite accusations and claims that he collaborated in providing weapons and training to the Rwandan regime forces during the late 1990s, which contributed to the genocide that resulted in the death of over a million people, he was not formally charged or prosecuted before his death due to health deterioration caused by Parkinson's disease. It is worth noting that Parel was a controversial figure; he participated in operations protecting African presidents, but he was also connected to legal issues and scandals related to security and intelligence activities. He remained publicly active until his death without facing a court trial.
