France confirms first human Chamonda case

The French authorities announced the first human case of the "Chlamonda" virus in France, involving a patient with severe immunodeficiency who passed away in early October. The infection resulted from a bite by a colicoid fly in eastern France, where the virus is transmitted among animals during the spring and summer seasons. It is typically spread by small biting insects and was previously limited to livestock in Africa and Asia. Investigations suggest that the brain complications experienced by the patient are most likely linked to the virus, and currently, there is no specific health risk to the French population. Ongoing investigations and monitoring are being conducted by the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
