Far-right Influence on German Youth via Sports

German authorities are indicating a rise in the activity of far-right networks that use gyms and combat sports clubs as a means to attract young people, particularly through training in fighting techniques and disseminating content that incites violence, with the aim of turning them into individuals aligned with far-right extremism. The number of these groups, known as "active clubs," increased from about 12 in 2024 to approximately 20 regionally by 2026, with confirmed signs of their evolving violent capabilities and ongoing recruitment efforts through online platforms and social media. The government emphasizes that these measures are aimed at early prevention of youth radicalization and increasing violent potential, highlighting the importance of strengthening awareness programs and cooperating with sports clubs to monitor extremist activities.
