Lavrov in Tehran amid peace prospects

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Tehran in an attempt to strengthen Russian influence and revive US-Iran negotiations, amid disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear program, and economic issues. Iran welcomed the Russian support, and Lavrov expressed Moscow’s readiness to facilitate a settlement. However, their relationship does not guarantee a fundamental resolution of the disagreements, especially with ongoing sanctions and regional tensions. Despite expanded military and economic cooperation, Moscow is avoiding commitments to security guarantees or direct military support, as obstacles remain in implementing the economic and trade agreements between the two countries.
