Lavrov's Tehran Visit: Russia's Goals

The article discusses Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to Tehran as part of efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States, amid escalating tensions between the two parties—especially following the outbreak of the American-Israeli war against Iran and the deterioration of negotiations. The visit focuses on Moscow's attempt to de-escalate the situation, emphasizing Russian initiatives aimed at resolving the crises, while also indicating that the success of the mediation depends on Iran making concessions regarding the nuclear issue and freedom of navigation. The article states that Moscow is seeking to strengthen its regional and international influence through this approach, while also being concerned that Iran and Washington might exploit the Russian role to serve their own interests. Additionally, the American stance reduces hope for progress, whereas a successful mediation could help avoid a broader confrontation in the region.
