Iran calls for opposition surrender in Iraq

Iran announced unilaterally an agreement with Iraqi authorities to remove Iranian Kurdish opposition groups from Iraq or to transfer them to Tehran. This was stated during a joint security committee meeting attended by delegations from both sides. However, the Iraqi side and the Kurdistan Regional Government did not mention any details regarding this issue. Iranian opposition groups operate in Iraqi Kurdistan, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, with refugee camps established in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil. These groups have been targeted by Iranian attacks. Additionally, Iran continues to strengthen security cooperation with Iraq through frequent visits by border leaders, aimed at controlling infiltration and opposing groups. The fate of the Iranian Kurdish opposition remains a contentious issue, causing disagreements between Iraqi and Iranian officials.
