Japan to bring Mars moon samples by 2031
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced a plan to launch a mission to explore Phobos, one of Mars' moons, with the aim of collecting samples of soil and rocks from the moon by 2031. The spacecraft, which will be launched using the H3 rocket, will carry samples containing materials from Mars that could help understand the origin and evolution of the Red Planet, including the possibility of past life. The mission involves gathering at least 10 grams of material for laboratory analysis, focusing on its chemical and mineral composition, as well as organic components—particularly amino acids—that may provide evidence of water and environments conducive to life. This mission presents an opportunity to resolve theories about the origin of Phobos, whether it resulted from an impact or gravitational accumulation, and to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the solar system.
