Iran reports civilian oil tanker hit mine

The Iranian Navy announced that a "violating" oil tanker was damaged by an explosion after colliding with a sea mine south of the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in a fire in its engine room. It added that the vessel had stopped its GPS and navigation systems and was attempting to leave the strait along an unauthorized route. The Navy also confirmed that its forces would take a firm stance against any ships that cease operating their navigation systems in the area. This incident comes a week after several "violating" oil tankers exploded due to collisions with naval mines, amidst Iran's control over the waters of the strait and increased regional tensions.
