Diego Gomez scored a stunning goal from a distance of 51.3 meters in Brighton's 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace, making it the longest goal in the Premier League since Wayne Roney's goal in 2017. The goal came after an inspired performance that involved reading the Crystal Palace goalkeeper's positioning and assessing the situation, with Gomez confirming that the proximity of the opposing goalkeeper slightly ahead prompted him to decide to shoot. Brighton's coach affirmed that the team does not practice such shots and that it was merely individual brilliance, while the club's captain described the goal as exceptional. The team capitalized on the win to temporarily advance to second place and set a record for the most goals scored in the first seven matches of a season, alongside highlighting a significant evolution in their attacking performance.
