Canada's Unity Threatened by Alberta Referendum
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that the upcoming referendum in Alberta on secession is a "dangerous gamble" that threatens the country's unity and sovereignty. He warned that the vote scheduled for next Monday aims to decide whether the province will remain part of Canada or initiate secession procedures, emphasizing that the turnout will determine the outcome. Carney regarded holding such a vote at this time as a significant risk, especially given the challenges Canada faces, in order to avoid years of uncertainty and negative impacts on national unity.
