Over 70 Civilians Hit in Darfur Drone

Thirty civilians were killed and 43 others wounded in a drone attack targeting a livestock market in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, according to the Sudanese Born Alliance, which supports the Rapid Support Forces. The alliance accused the Sudanese army of carrying out the attack. It confirmed that the drone was launched from the Eastern El Oweinat base and considered the attack a war crime, calling for an independent investigation and international action to protect civilians and hold those responsible accountable. This attack comes amid a surge in drone attacks that have claimed the lives of approximately 1,400 civilians in the first half of 2023, according to the United Nations. Multiple reports have documented targeted strikes on markets, hospitals, and displacement sites, with some of these violations described as potentially amounting to war crimes.
