Netherlands restricts Russian female gymnasts
The authorities in the Netherlands have completed issuing entry visas for some Russian rhythmic gymnastics athletes. However, visa applications for three prominent Olympic champions—Angelina Melnikova, Victoria Listunova, and Anna Kalmikova—were rejected, preventing them from participating in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, which started days later. The International Gymnastics Federation has expressed regret over the negative impact of this decision on the Russian team’s preparations and the confusion among the participants, emphasizing that visa issuance is subject to Dutch authorities and that the federation has no influence over the reasons behind the rejection of certain applications. This incident occurs within the context of travel restrictions imposed on Russian athletes, which have affected their participation in previous world events, such as last year's Indonesia Championship.
