Yemen Displaced Faces Houthi Risks

Yemen is facing an escalating humanitarian crisis due to ongoing conflicts in Taiz. Continuous hostilities and Houthi attacks on residential areas have led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. In fact, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Taiz alone accounts for about 55% of the total displaced population in the country, totaling over 217,000 individuals as of October 2023. Difficult living conditions have significantly worsened the health situation, with suspected cholera cases rising to over 8,000, including 27 fatalities. These cases are concentrated in areas hosting large numbers of IDPs, putting additional pressure on healthcare facilities, water supplies, and sanitation services. Poor living conditions—such as overcrowding, lack of potable water, and limited health services—have led to the spread of infectious diseases, especially among children and vulnerable groups. Displaced populations face widespread health risks, including the spread of cholera and measles, resulting from limited access to medical care and clean water.
