Libyan Probe into South National Number Forgery

Libyan investigations reveal a significant rise in family registry records linked to the Ouzou region, which is currently under Chadian sovereignty. Authorities registered 28,000 records after 2011, compared to about 2,000 before that year. It is believed that these increases may be related to cases of identity and nationality forgery, as citizenships have been revoked and reissued for Libyan families connected to the region amidst suspicions of manipulation in civil registration data. This includes over 315,000 national ID numbers, 10,000 passports, and other instances of forgery. The investigations focus on the accuracy of these records and the identity verification procedures, raising concerns about potential exploitation of civil data vulnerabilities by security or ethnic groups. There have been calls to address the issue through a comprehensive biometric civil registry project that ensures proper verification and safeguards individuals' rights.
