Britain and Germany Seek Tougher Russia Sanctions

The article discussed Britain's and Germany's efforts to increase sanctions against Moscow due to the war in Ukraine. Both foreign ministers called for doubling the pressure on Russia following U.S. President Trump's decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel. The German Foreign Minister emphasized that the time is not right to relax sanctions and that they should be strengthened, while the British Foreign Secretary praised the European Union's decision to add about 1,600 individuals and entities to the sanctions lists, reaffirming the need to intensify pressure on Moscow. It was also noted that Trump's decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel allows Russia to release greater quantities into global markets, while Ukraine faces attacks on its energy infrastructure. There are calls to expand the ceasefire to include more regions and reduce attacks, especially as Ukrainian energy facilities continue to be targeted by Russian strikes since the war began in February 2022.
