Supply chains' role in UAE food security
The article discusses the importance of supply chains in strengthening food security in the UAE, especially in light of the shipping disruptions in 2026 that revealed a heavy reliance on international logistics networks. It explains that increasing local production is necessary, but that capability alone is not enough if supply chains are inflexible, as operations were significantly affected by transportation delays and the heavy dependence on imported materials. The article reviews efforts by companies such as "Ecco Group" to adjust shipping routes and diversify suppliers, including importing via alternative routes and using air freight for specialized materials to ensure continuous production. It also highlights the importance of enhancing local industrial capacities and strengthening the links between manufacturing, supply, and logistics to build more resilient and efficient networks capable of facing future challenges.
