Anna Politkovskaya's Computer Findings

After her murder in 2006, the words of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya were found on her computer, in which she spoke about the threats she faced, including a poisoning attempt, arrests, and death threats. She wrote about being targeted by Russian authorities due to her reports on human rights violations, especially during the Second Chechen War, where she exposed repressive practices and media censorship. Despite the dangers, she insisted on continuing her work to uncover the truth and defend victims of repression. Since her assassination, there has been an escalation in restrictions on independent journalists in Russia, with prosecutions and arrests. Her newspapers and colleagues faced severe oppression, and the perpetrators of her murder were convicted; however, those who issued the order remain unknown—this remains a mystery to this day, 20 years later. Reporters Without Borders calls for uncovering the truth and ending the persecution of journalists, as independent media face increasing restrictions since the start of the Russian war against Ukraine.
