Modi Boosts India Israel Ties Amid Gaza Conflict
India has witnessed a shift in its stance on the Palestinian cause since Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, with the country increasingly aligning itself clearly with Israel. This is especially evident after the escalation of Israeli military operations in Gaza, which resulted in the death of around 74,000 Palestinians over three years. Additionally, India has become Israel’s largest importer of arms. Its statements have emphasized a rejection of terrorism, while Modi's political support for Israel has grown, including official visits and expressions of strong friendship between the two leaders. Despite Delhi’s support for a two-state solution, it avoids imposing sanctions on Israel and prefers to stick to rhetorical positions. India remains committed to countering terrorism and pursuing its internal policies of Hindutva. This approach is part of an effort to strengthen security and diplomatic relations with Israel, despite international criticism over ongoing occupation and violations in Gaza and the West Bank.
