Turkey: No plans to send troops to Yemen
Turkey has confirmed that it will not send military forces to attack the Houthis in Yemen, clarifying that the Mecca Agreement for Collective Defense, signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in August, is a defensive rather than an offensive arrangement. The agreement stipulates a commitment to collective defense among the member states in case any of them faces armed attack, and there is no intention to send forces to carry out external attacks on Yemeni territory or elsewhere. Turkey, which has the second-largest army in NATO, supports Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks and participates in alliances aimed at ensuring the security of the Red Sea, while rejecting direct military intervention in Yemen.
