Palestinian groups agree to delay elections

The main Palestinian factions, including Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad, agreed in a meeting in Egypt to postpone the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for November 28. It is expected that the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Council will hold a session to discuss the results of the dialogue and will recommend delaying the elections. The decision will then be submitted to President Mahmoud Abbas for issuance of a presidential decree, which might happen before the candidacy deadline. This decision comes after Israel refused to allow election observers from the Electoral Commission to enter the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem to oversee the electoral procedures, amid an increase in the number of candidate lists to nine.
