Maduro's wife faces new accusations after losing years and weight

The wife of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Cilia Flores, is currently living in a Brooklyn jail in New York, where she awaits trial alongside her husband on charges related to drug and arms trafficking. Her health has deteriorated due to prison conditions; she has lost two teeth and 11 kilograms, and doctors have recommended a heart catheterization procedure. However, she fears undergoing the operation in an uncontrolled environment, and her lawyers are requesting her transfer to a private residence with strict security monitoring, which the prosecution opposes. The prosecutors argue that Flores is acting to gain special privileges. The couple is being held in separate cells, amid concerns that she faces additional health risks from altercations with other inmates. Meanwhile, American authorities are considering new charges related to the torture of US citizens during Maduro's rule, amidst an ongoing legal battle over their legal immunity.
