Eritrean Forces in Tigray Heighten Tensions

The article discusses the escalation of clashes between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), with reports of Eritrean troops being deployed in northern Tigray Region near the border with Eritrea. Although Eritrea denies the presence of its forces in the area, reports and eyewitnesses have confirmed sightings of Eritrean troops moving toward the region, posing the risk of escalating tensions into a broader regional war. Relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea have been tense since the renewed hostilities, especially after Ethiopia accused Eritrea of supporting the rebels. Meanwhile, Eritrea fears that Ethiopia’s intentions may include invading its territory to gain access to the Red Sea. Tensions have heightened further after Eritrea severed diplomatic ties with Ethiopia, which accuses Asmara of backing the Tigray Front. Experts warn that if these developments continue, there could be a risk of a wider military confrontation.
