Indonesia VP verdict finds no secondary issues

The Indonesian judiciary decided not to remove Vice President Jooan Raka Pumang from his position, despite the lack of proof that he possess the required high school diploma, which is a fundamental condition for running for any elected office. The court confirmed that the legal teams who filed the lawsuit are not considered direct stakeholders or harmed parties. Although the candidate period has ended and the vice president has been inaugurated, the court emphasized the absence of official documentation confirming that he completed high school, which could hinder his future eligibility to run for legislative and executive positions at both local and national levels. The ruling also served as a warning, opening the door for accountability regarding Raka’s lack of the necessary certificate, with the court reaffirming that the submitted documents were insufficient to prove completion of high school. This situation could potentially lead to impeachment procedures in the future.
