Millions of Israelis seek mental health help

A recent study indicates that nearly one million Israelis have contacted the mental health support hotline operated by “Ahran” since Hamas's attack on October 7, 2023, due to the rise in psychological issues caused by the war. The report recorded an increase in cases of loneliness and psychological distress, with more calls expressing suicidal thoughts or intentions—particularly among children and young people, who account for a quarter of the requests. The findings also showed that trauma and panic cases have gradually progressed into chronic psychological distress, accompanied by an increased demand for help from both military personnel and civilians. Calls related to suicide accounted for approximately 2.83% of all requests over the past three years. The report calls for heightened awareness of signs of psychological distress and emphasizes the importance of supporting affected individuals.
