Lebanon Energy Minister Absent from Government Meetings

The article focused on Lebanese Energy Minister Jo Saadeh's decision to abstain from attending government sessions, as a protest against the government's failure to take responsibility and make the necessary decisions to ensure the continuity of electricity. Saadeh announced that he would continue performing his ministerial duties despite not attending the sessions, a move that reflects a political objection to the worsening power situation in Lebanon, especially amidst rising fuel prices and declining production due to a fuel oil shortage. He also called on the government to settle outstanding electricity bills owed by state institutions and to adjust electricity tariffs in line with fuel prices. However, he emphasized that his responsibility is limited to executing his duties within the ministry. The study showed that abstaining from attendance is not legally prescribed in Lebanon and is merely a political stance; this approach has previously been adopted by other ministers and is often used as a means of expressing political protest from within the government.
