Suspected Pneumonic Plague in Siberia

Russian authorities indicate that there have been no cases of pneumonic plague following the death of a woman from a laboratory specializing in plague research. It was determined that her death was due to an unknown cause of pneumonia, not the plague bacterium. Quarantine measures have been imposed on two hospitals and a children's clinic, with no additional cases recorded. Meanwhile, the United States is monitoring the situation closely and evaluating options. Pneumonic plague is the most dangerous form of the disease, as it can spread rapidly through respiratory droplets and cause severe symptoms such as fever, headache, and lung swelling. Prompt treatment with antibiotics is essential to save those infected, along with preventive measures including isolation and mask-wearing.
