Apache workers' strike risks North Sea oil flow
Workers at the "Apache" company in the North Sea went on strike this October, after more than 160 workers voted overwhelmingly to strike due to stalled negotiations over wages. The strike threatens to halt operations on the "Charlie" platform and disrupt the "Fortis" oil transportation system, which carries about 29% of the total British oil production and 30% of gas output. This system is a key component of global oil markets because it supplies Fortis Blend crude, used to set global oil prices. Apache has offered a 4% raise and insists that its employees' wages are already high, but the potential stoppage of transportation could have significant impacts on the UK's fuel supplies and the global oil markets.
