Brain may be more resilient than thought

A new study has found that the brain's capacity to process information may not be as limited as previously believed, showing that increasing the number of neurons in the visual cortex of mice continued to improve visual discrimination accuracy without any sign of a maximum limit. Researchers analyzed the activity of thousands of neurons and discovered that information increased as more cells were added, suggesting that the brain might benefit from its large number of neurons continuously. However, the study did not demonstrate that this concept applies to other areas of the brain or to humans, and further research is still needed to confirm whether neural performance can continually improve with an increase in neurons.
