US deploys third carrier group to Middle East

The Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) plans to send a third strike group of aircraft carriers to the Middle East, along with additional Marine forces, adding between 9,000 and 10,000 U.S. soldiers to the region by the end of November. This forces include the aircraft carriers USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington, with the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt heading from San Diego. If Washington remains in the region after Roosevelt's arrival, there will be three aircraft carrier groups in the area for the first time since April, representing a potential escalation of regional tensions.
