Washington detains employee over Houthi support
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that a Department of Energy employee, named Ashton Hamed Al-Laboudi, aged 51, has been arrested on charges of attempting to support the Houthi group by purchasing chemicals and communication equipment used in making bombs and drones, and using his engineering expertise to assist them in obtaining explosive materials. This followed communication with an informant associated with the FBI, who was posing as a Houthi officer. Investigations indicate that he traveled abroad and obtained manufacturing materials, with the possibility of facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
