Iraq Announces Weapon Inventory Date

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falah Zahidi announced the start of a new phase to address the issue of weapons outside state control, setting the end of June 2027 as the deadline for implementing the roadmap to regain control over non-governmental arms. He emphasized that the decision to go to war or peace should be in the hands of constitutional authorities, and that the government will work to disarm non-Iraqi armed groups and achieve security and stability for the country. He also announced support for security institutions by purchasing an integrated air defense system and incorporating the Popular Mobilization Forces into the security framework, while committing to prevent their use for purposes that threaten neighboring security. Zahidi considered the end of the international coalition's mission as a milestone toward national sovereignty, and stated that the upcoming phase will focus on strengthening peace, stability, and development.
