US court approves deportation of Wisconsin mosque leader

A U.S. judge issued a ruling permitting the deportation of Palestinian Salah Sroussor, the head of the Islamic Association in Milwaukee and the largest mosque in Wisconsin, despite his protests about his life in the United States and fears of being harmed if returned to the West Bank. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Sroussor in March 2023 and released him in mid-June following a lawsuit related to freedom of speech. However, the final judgment confirmed that Salah poses a threat to national security under laws dating back to the Cold War. Salah, who has lived in the United States for more than 30 years, denies government accusations of throwing Molotov cocktails and asserts he has been subjected to torture to extract confessions. Meanwhile, the government accuses him of attempting to be deported due to his Palestinian origins and human rights activism.
