Egypt backs UN efforts for Libya settlement

Egypt emphasizes its support for the UN efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement in Libya, with a focus on Libyan ownership and leadership of the political process. The current initiatives include efforts to create favorable conditions for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, and to reach consensus on political and security tracks, despite some Libyan institutions expressing reservations about the outcomes of the mini-track facilitated by the United Nations. Meanwhile, the United States continues to support the unification of Libya’s institutions and the holding of national elections to achieve stability.
