The World Health Organization announced a widespread outbreak of cholera and measles among Yemenis displaced by conflict. More than 7,780 suspected cholera cases and 22 deaths have been recorded, along with over 22,000 measles cases and 9,600 cases of dengue fever, resulting in 37 deaths. The organization pointed out that overcrowding, lack of clean drinking water, and inadequate sanitation services in displacement areas are accelerating the spread of these epidemics. In response to the issue, 59 tons of medical supplies were distributed to 40 health facilities, and 20 medical teams were deployed. However, WHO clarified that their field stocks have been depleted and there is an urgent need for additional funding—$7 million out of a total $9 million—to carry out prevention and treatment activities. The number of internally displaced people in Yemen has also risen to 145,000, amidst the rapid spread of these disease outbreaks.
