Nepal Seeks Missing Grandchildren After Disaster

Approximately a month after the sudden floods and snow avalanches that struck vast areas of Nepal and Tibet, residents are still pleading for help to find the missing and deal with the aftermath of the disaster, which has resulted in over 1,450 deaths and 5,700 people missing. The tragedy has destroyed more than 7,500 buildings and damaged vital infrastructure. Those affected are struggling to rebuild their lives, anguished by the fact that many of the missing remain unaccounted for, as they search for the bodies of their loved ones for burial. Estimates suggest that rebuilding could take years and will require around 4.8 billion dollars, amid piled debris and difficulty access to remote villages, all compounded by economic and environmental challenges related to climate change. The government has called for more international aid and funding to address the impacts of the phenomenon, including retreating glaciers and rising temperatures.
