China introduces Tenbaigo for cross-border payments

Tencent, the Chinese company, has launched the "Tenbago" app to facilitate payment processes for foreign travelers visiting China, especially as the number of international tourists increases. The app supports foreign-issued bank cards through seven international card organizations such as Visa and MasterCard, in addition to Apple Pay and external electronic wallets like Starblow. Users can make payments by scanning a QR code or activate bus and subway ride codes in Shencheng without needing a phone number or transit card. The app plans to expand its services to include tax refunds and menu translations using AI, as part of China's efforts to improve digital infrastructure for foreign tourists. The number of international visitors to China increased by 20.4% in the first half of the year, while the value of e-wallet transactions rose by more than 80%.
