There have been reports on social media of scenes—said to document devastating floods in Nepal and China. However, technical investigations have confirmed that many of these clips are fabricated or generated by artificial intelligence and have no connection to the actual disaster. It has been revealed that some videos depicting ice avalanches and rushing waters are not authentic, as techniques like "Synth AI" were used to add hidden watermarks proving they were digitally created. Other clips were posted before the floods occurred or show events in other regions such as Patagonia or Pakistan. Despite this, recent realistic floods in Nepal have resulted in over 734 deaths and around 2,498 people missing, along with widespread destruction of infrastructure and the mountainous environment. Satellite images have also revealed extensive geographical changes caused by the torrents and the magnitude of the destruction.
