King Harald V of Norway has passed away at the age of 89, and his son Harald VIII has ascended to the throne. He was born on February 21, 1937. During his childhood, he and his family had to leave Norway due to the Nazi invasion during World War II, returning later after the war ended. He assumed the throne following the death of his father, King Olav, and became heir apparent in 1957. He studied at Oxford between 1960 and 1962. In 1968, he married Sonja Haraldsen, opening the door for people from the general public to marry into the Norwegian royal family. Today, he died at Oslo University Hospital after his health deteriorated. His son Håkon was proclaimed the new king, and a national mourning was declared.
