UNIFIL transfers site to Lebanese Army in Khardali

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) handed over a position in the Khardali-Litani area in southern Lebanon to the Lebanese Army today, as part of a plan to transfer several sites from international forces to the Lebanese Army to strengthen its presence and assume control of military positions. This step comes in accordance with UN Security Council resolution to conclude UNIFIL's mission in Lebanon by the end of this year. UNIFIL has been deployed since 1978, with its mission expanding after the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
