U.S. authorities have announced that they have expanded their crackdown on an Iranian hacking network accused of carrying out theft and extortion operations targeting universities, companies, and government agencies worldwide between 2013 and 2017. Charges have been brought against 17 individuals, including eight additional suspects, with a reward of up to $10 million offered for information leading to the location of five of them. The network is believed to have stolen approximately 31.5 terabytes of scientific and research data. The case now involves the targeting of 144 American universities and 178 foreign universities, along with more than 42 American companies and 11 foreign companies, in addition to several government agencies and organizations. The attorney general emphasized that their investigations will continue despite more than eight years having passed since the case began.
