German border control extension reasons

Border surveillance operations at Germany's external borders have been extended for an additional six months until mid-March 2027, in order to reduce irregular migration. This follows the announcement by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt that developments on European borders necessitate the continuation of these measures, after the internal borders of the European Union reopened on September 16, 2024, and before receiving approval from the European Commission. It is worth noting that Germany had previously completed three extensions of this measure, the latest lasting until mid-September 2026.
