Iran sentences two men over protests

The Iranian Mizan Agency reported that the government executed two men, Abu Fadl Sebahi Badjani and Amir Hussein Safari Hossein Abadi, on charges related to their participation in killing security forces members during the ongoing January protests across the country. The protests, which began as economic grievances and evolved into an anti-government movement, have resulted in more than 3,000 deaths, according to authorities. Human rights organizations estimate the death toll to be in the thousands, attributing much of the crackdown’s severity to the increased repression following American and Israeli attacks in February.
